During an eventful Fair Trade Fortnight (23 February 6 March) over 60 Croydon businesses attended a tasty and inspiring breakfast hosted by ENVIBE, working with Croydon’s Fairtrade Network, Divine Chocolate and the Body Shop.
The delightful and fair trade cuisine was catered by the students of Croydon Colleges Chef’s Restaurant, helping to raise the students profile amongst the business community whilst raising the issue of Fairtrade.
The delicious Divine Chocolate Company presented their compelling story working with the Kuapa KoKoo Farmers, two of which came all the way from Ghana to help raise the awareness of the fair trade deal that they are receiving. Not only do the farmers receive a fair price but they also share in the company’s profits. It’s simply heavenly!
The Body Shop informed how their cocoa butter products have been using Kuapa Kokoo butter for over 15 years through their community trade scheme. The farmers were delighted to receive a hand massage from one of the Body Shop consultants after the talk!
Recent research by Feel4 shows that despite feeling the pinch, 92% of consumers still claimed to be willing to pay extra for a product perceived be ethical and, Fairtrade was shoppers favoured type of ethical product. The breakfast informed how business’ purchasing power can have a positive global influence through the benefits of buying Fairtrade products.
“I wanted to express our heart felt thanks for such a fantastic day in Croydon yesterday. It was always going to be a jam packed day covering every kind of audience but we were so pleased that the whole day was such a pleasure! The farmers had a fantastic time. They were thrilled to be welcomed so warmly, and pleased with everyone’s enthusiasm. The organisation and flow of the day was exceptional, well done for all your hard work.
I have been doing Fairtrade Fortnight for 3 years with Divine Chocolate and I can honestly say yesterday was my favourite day of any tour.” Laura Blake, Divine Chocolate Marketing Manager
