Working in partnership, ENVIBE and Seltrans held a travel sense business breakfast with networking opportunities for local businesses to find out about travel planning.

At the event we wanted to hear what the businesses considered to be the benefits of implementing a travel plan, for the business, staff and the community. But, we also wanted to find out from businesses first hand what the challenges a business faces when travel planning. Using real case study scenarios these were revealed.

When the businesses were asked to consider what the solutions were to these challenges, the businesses could see that the benefits they had identified; cost savings, increased staff wellbeing, competitive advantage (environmental credentials), time saving, socialising and networking opportunities, reduced congestion, and reduced pollution; were realistic and attainable. They came up with a raft of measures, from small everyday actions by staff to larger business operation decisions through which to solve the everyday challenges a business faces when considering travel planning. What was inspiring was that the exercise identified solutions, and that these were possible, especially with the support and financial grants available from Seltrans.

The event was a great networking opportunity for the businesses, both to find out what practical quick win solutions other businesses have implemented, as well as providing them with the opportunity to get to know their neighbours. The event was attended by the District Centre Manager for the Purley Way, Ken Sherwood, who was there to inform of the support he he can provide to businesses during the economic downturn.
