The unravelling travel breakfast event provided networking opportunities for local businesses to share best practice and learn more about how a travel plan can provide a range of benefits to the company as well the individual employees. At the event we coordinated a round the table discussion and exercise, during which we provided each table with a case study of a local company and asked them to note down the benefits of adopting a work place travel plan for the business. We also discussed the challenges in implementing a travel plan and how best to overcome these. Challenges for travel planning often arise when a business is based in hard to reach areas or when car or van travel is essential to the day to day working of the company. However there are many creative solutions that can be implemented when thinking about how to promote more sustainable travel choices across a company. Those discussed at the workshop included car sharing breakfast mornings and courtesy bus pick ups by the company responsible which is especially effective for construction companies who have workers travelling to different sites every day.
