THE ENVIBE CHALLENGEThe Envibe Challenge launched in March 2006, working closely with 10 local businesses. The objectives were to identify realistic environmental actions which could be implemented into each business. Once actions had been established, the next step was to monitor and measure the financial and consumption savings for each activity. The Challenge focuses on waste management, recycling opportunities, energy savings, water efficiency, sustainable travel and green purchasing. Those businesses involved since the launch are:
Challenge members receive tailored made support during the year long programme through an Envibe Co-ordinator and Envibe’s network of expert support partners to generate combined commercial savings. To date savings of almost £1 million have been identified across these businesses together with associated environmental benefits. As well as identifying and implementing opportunities for savings businesses learn from each other through workshops, receive one to one support between from The Envibe Challenge Coordinator and regular communication updates. All these businesses have been awarded the Silver Envibe Award and some have taken it further to achieve Gold. EPS Projects has received support to help them monitor their waste sent to landfill and increase recycling opportunities at their offices and regeneration sites across London. Delighted with their progress and outstanding achievements to date, Claire Ash, Environmental Manager at EPS Projects comments: 'With energy initiatives high on our agenda, working with the ENVIBE Challenge has given us, and our work, a real boost. It has also given us brilliant opportunities to work with a variety of experts to further our knowledge. Our potential savings, apart from reducing our impact on the environment, are nearly £30,000. The amount of support and enthusiasm from our staff to help us achieve our environmental objectives has been tremendous. The challenge now is to build on these achievements and harness this commitment from our employees to raise our targets even higher.' Based on the success of the Challenge 2006 eight further businesses have been recruited for 2007 keen to improve their environmental performance, with a unique opportunity to learn from those original business members in year one. Those organisations now involved are:
They are already measuring their current performance by collecting their baseline data and implementing tailor made environmental action plans. Potential Savings have already reached £270,000 and this figure is set to grow. Businesses can join the Challenge for free. All we ask for is a commitment of time.
